Bridal Bouquet Ideas and Choosing a Bridal Florist
Flowers have expressed love, passion and devotion for centuries. Is it any wonder that they play such an important role in weddings?

Before you meet with a bridal florist you will want to have an idea of color, style and budget. Also consider the number of arrangements, bouquets, corsages and boutonierres you will require for the ceremony and reception. Shape, color, and texture of flowers and foliage will be partly dictated by the arrangement style; these choices can be made with the assistance of your florist.

Bridal Bouquet Ideas
A traditional bouquet choice would be the cascade/shower or classic/round shaped bouquet in colors such as
white, cream, pale pink or peach. Some flowers you might choose are roses, baby's breath, carnations, orchids, lilies, and gardenia. Choose for fragrance as well as shape and color; for a truly meaningful bouquet, consult the Language of Flowers.

For corsages, boutonierres and other arrangements, choose some of the same flowers from your bouquet. You may also want a basket of flowers or flower petals for the flower girl to scatter.

For a simpler look, choose a round/posy style, or nosegay for a smaller bouquet of tight, densely packed flowers. Or consider an arm/presentation style with cut stems showing for a looser arrangement. Simpler bouquets, corsages, and arrangements can contain a single color or smaller palette rather than a mix, one flower type, or wildflowers, daisies, lily of the valley or other flowers in season

Consider traditional types of flowers in nontraditional colors (callas come in amazing oranges and reds, for example, not just white). Spiky blooms and foliage create a different texture, and large blossoms such as sunflowers are a bold choice for fall wedding flowers. Flower girls can carry pomander balls or basket bouquets, and fruit or herb elements are an interesting addition, particularly at a fall wedding.

Flowers can be a large percentage of a wedding budget; here are some ways to decrease costs while still enjoying the beauty and meaning of flowers at your wedding:

  • Decorate with greenery or ribbons at the church and reception
  • Use foliage as inexpensive filler in arrangements
  • Use silk flowers or arrangements: they can be very realistic, and they last forever!

Remember that some of these cost-saving ideas are GREEN ideas, too!

  • Ask friends/family to donate blooms from home gardens. Be sure to schedule time to collect and assemble arrangements.
  • Have a Garden Party, orchard, or vineyard wedding and reception and enjoy the natural flora!
  • Use local flowers in season
  • Consider using living plants rather than cut flowers; share the plants as favors or gifts after the event.
